Other Forms for Pet Travel
Both Airline Health Certificates and Acclimation Certificates are very useful in certain instances when traveling with a pet.
Airline Health Certificates are required by many airlines, especially if your pet is flying as air cargo. Many airlines also require Airline Health Certificates for pets flying as accompanied checked baggage or in the cabin. This is a generic health certificate that can be used on all airlines as the certificate contains entries for all relevant information that the airlines will want to see at your pet’s check in. Your veterinarian will complete this form within 10 days of departure.
Acclimation Certificates are used for pets flying in the cargo hold during periods of cold weather. All airlines will refuse live animals that require transport in the cargo hold when outside temperatures in the origination, layover or destination airports are less than 45 degrees F (7 degrees C); however, some airlines will allow dogs and cats with thick coats that are accustomed to colder temperatures to fly during winter months with an Acclimation Certificate. Check with your airline to see if they will accept an Acclimation Certificate. Your veterinarian will complete this form within 10 days of departure.
